American Justice on Trial - People v. Newton (Trailer)
The Moment when the USA faced a point of political insurrection as it played out in the courts. The 1968 Black Panther Party made their case for the right to participate in society. As the Oakland Distric Attorney's office was making their case, the BPP members on the stand educated America about what the Party stood for and why.
The level of interest in the case and what it meant to a large part of Oakland citizens as well as the entire country made the stakes of the trial a hotly discussed issue. Protests in the streets and the daily articles stirred the politicians to pause and weigh how the Police act as their own brutal political force.
